It’s the beginning of new semester or academic year semester, which means that soon it’s time to update the validity of your student card. This always raises questions, so we’ve put together answers to frequently asked questions here on our blog:
How long a validation sticker is valid?
The validation sticker of the academic year and spring semester is valid until the end of September, if you are a student continuing your studies. The validation sticker of the autumn semester is valid until the end of the January, if you are a student continuing your studies.
If you have already graduated, your student status has expired and student discounts are no longer available to you.
How do I update Slice digital student card?
Slice digital student card is automatically updated for the new semester or academic year, if you have enrolled for semester or academic year and paid the student union membership fee. You can pay the membership fee online; you can find the necessary instructions and links on our website.
My student card has expired, how do I get a new one?
You don’t need to renew the entire card, just the expiration sticker on the card. See the next answer for how to do this.
How do I get a new sticker on my AMK student card?
If you want to update the academic year sticker to your plastic UAS student card, it is easiest to do so on campus. You can find a HAMKO service point at the Hämeenlinna University Centre. On other campuses, you can pick up the academic year sticker from the local student association. The associations will announce more detailed opening hours on their own channels.
We recommend that all our members use Slice’s digital student card. This way, you will still have access to your student benefits, even if you are unable to pick up your new academic year sticker in time. With Slice, you have access to all student benefits in the same way as with a physical card.
If you live far away and are studying entirely remotely, it is also possible to receive the sticker by post. Please note that mailings are not necessarily done daily and we primarily recommend picking up from campus, if possible.
How do I know if I have paid the membership fee?
When you log in to renew your membership, you will see the date until which your membership fee is valid in the box at the top of the form. If you wish, you can also contact us by e-mail hamko@hamko.fi.
How can I pay the membership fee?
We recommend renewing your membership online. Payment is made via Paytrail, so you can choose a card or online banking payment.
Please note that when logging in to the form, you must use the same format from your email address that you provided when you joined. So, if necessary, try both formats firstname.lastname@student.hamk.fi and amk1234567@student.hamk.fi / firstname1234@student.hamk.fi.
You can also renew your membership at the HAMKO office or at the local student association office when picking up your academic year sticker. The best way to stay up to date with the activities of local student associations is to follow the associations’ own communication channels, although of course we at HAMKO also provide information to the best of our ability.
I am a new student. Do I have to wait for the card to arrive from the printer, or is a digital student card also available?
Good news, as our member you will receive a free Slice digital student card! If you have just joined HAMKO, please first activate your Slice digital student card. You will receive a notification to your student email when your plastic card arrives.
I haven’t received any Slice activation codes, what do I do?
- Check both boxes in your email – Important and Other
- Check your spam folder
- Check your member information to make sure your student number is correct. If your student number is incorrect, Slice will not receive your information.
- The student number is 7 digits and starts with the year you started your studies (e.g., for those who started in 2025, the student number starts with 25….).
- The student number can be found on the Pakista homepage, among other things.
- Note! The number in your HAMK username is not your student number.
- Check that you have registered as an attendee.
- If you have done all of this and still have not received your username, please send us an email at hamko@hamko.fi.
Reminder: Enroll for the academic year!
If you haven’t yet enrolled for academic year, remember to do it by the end of August. Enroll in Pakki.
