Alkupamaus 2020 has been cancelled

HAMKO’s board has decided to cancel all events at least until the end of September. This means that Alkupamaus will also be canceled from 2020. Alkupamaus has traditionally been organized in September to celebrate the start of the new academic year. The event has gathered almost 1,000 participants from all HAMK campuses.

During the summer, there was a lot of discussion within the board about the concept of Alkupamaus, as well as alternative ways of organizing the event. The main goal of Alkupamaus is to bring together students from all of HAMK’s campuses, so organizing the event on a smaller scale didn’t seem like a good solution.

“We followed the development of the corona situation throughout the summer. Although the situation improved and organizing public events was allowed, we feel that the situation is still too uncertain. We do not want to take unnecessary risks. The decision was difficult, but all of us in the board agreed that it is the only right one,” comments Sakari Vitikka, the president of the board.
