The Student Union of Häme University of Applied Sciences -HAMK- is a student-driven and effective advocate that represents students at Häme University of Applied Sciences. In Finland, student unions are considered so important that their role is defined in the Universities of Applied Sciences Act. This means that every university of applied sciences has its own student union to safeguard students’ interests.
What does the student union do?
The student union promotes students’ rights and interests in improving the quality of education, takes part in the administration of the university, organizes events and activities, and provides support and guidance for various challenges in student life. As a community, the student union offers opportunities for networking and helps to create a vibrant and rewarding student experience.
What does advocating students’ interests mean in practice?

- ensuring that student representatives take part in decision-making and

Who are the people in the student union?
The highest decision-making power in the student union lies with the 21-member Representative Council, elected annually from among the members. Day-to-day activities are carried out by the board and staff, who work to support students’ everyday life and well-being.
Members are the foundation of the organization, as they contribute ideas and feedback to the development of the organization and elect the Representative Council. Any HAMK student studying in a degree-leading program can become a member.
HAMKO is therefore much more than just a student card. It is a community, a chance to make a difference, and a support system for students in their daily lives.
