The Board leads the practical operations of the student union and turns the action plan into practical actions. The Board consists of a Chair, a Vice-Chair and a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of eight (8) members. Board’s tasks are to represent the Student Union locally and nationally and inform students as well as other interest groups about issues concerning them. It is also in charge of the Student Union’s administration.
Please note that the official language of the Student Union is Finnish. This means that, for example, the minutes of meetings are always made in Finnish. Daily conversations can be operated bi-lingual, but at least basic skills of Finnish would benefit you.
The operations of the Board
The board plans and implements the activities of the student union in accordance with the decisions of the representative council. Next year’s action plan includes e.g. the following types of things about the student council’s strategy, which you can work on:
- The events of the student union are suitable for different students and it is easy and comfortable to participate in them. We train and support organizations that organize events for students.
- Supervision of interests is solution-oriented and up-to-date. It supports the individual and the community.
- Actors of the student union are trained, managed and guided in order to achieve the goals. The operators’ endurance and ability to act is taken care of.
In practice, this means for example the following tasks:
- promoting actively HAMK students interests
- participating in different working groups at HAMK
- planning and organizing HAMKO’s events
- ordering student unions overalls and coordinating their sales on campuses
- participating in communications, for example producing content for social media channels.
Ranges of responsibility
The board has a variety of responsibility processes, so you get to use your strengths in different tasks! Tasks and areas of responsibility are divided among the board according to the interests of each.
Working on the board does not mean working alone, but everyone gets to work on all the different processes together throughout the year. The board is assisted by four employees of the student union.
Responsibility processes include e.g. Welfare, Member benefits and services, Internationality, Quality of education, Guidance and orientation, Student culture, Employment and Communication. The board divides the areas of responsibility between them in January, so you don’t need to know when you apply what you would like to work on.
What is expected of an applicant for the board?
Applicants for the board are expected to have the ability to take action and see projects through to completion. A good attitude and cooperation skills mean a lot. You do not need previous experience, as the board will be introduced to its duties. You just have to be a member of HAMKO and a student present at HAMKO at the time of selection.
The board values a wide range of skills, which is why different types of experts are needed. We are hoping for versatile applicants from different backgrounds, from all HAMK campuses and education programs. The term of the board is one calendar year.
