Standing for election has ended.
Every member of the student union has the right to stand as a candidate. The prerequisite is that your membership is valid and you have registered as an attending student for the current academic year.
In the representative council elections, both representatives and vice representatives are elected. If a member elected as a member in the elections is completely absent from the representative council during the term of office, vice members will become regular members of the representative council.
The candidates for the Representative Council shall be nominated in the manner determined by the Central Election Committee no later than twenty-one (21) days before the first election day.
The Central Election Committee checks the candidates’ right to stand as a candidate and approves the candidates upon registration.
The Central Election Committee determines the numbers in use and draws the election numbers from the lists.
It’s recommended to know at least basics of Finnish, since many materials and meeting minutes are conducted in Finnish. The official working language of the Representative is Finnish, but some of the conversations are translated in English.
Becoming a cancidate
The candidacy in the representative elections gives you the opportunity to express your own opinions and share development proposals. What issues would you like to take a stand on? What things do you consider important? This does not have to mean a political program, but the desire to actively participate in activities is a good starting point.
You can run as an independent candidate or as a candidate for an electoral alliance. Standing for election begins on Thursday 19.9.2024 at 9:00 and ends on Thursday 10.10.2024 at 12:00 (noon).
The Central Election Committee accepts the nominations and draws the election numbers. You will receive information about your candidacy and your voting number within a couple of days after the end of the nomination process.
Here’s an information package for those considering the candidacy.
Electoral Alliance
Candidates may form an electoral alliance if they so wish. An electoral alliance can be formed by a group of at least two but no more than 21 students standing as candidates. The votes received by the group are counted in favour of the candidates. In an electoral alliance, one member entitled to vote is authorised to act as an agent for the electoral alliance. The representative of the electoral alliance must also have declared himself or herself as a candidate for the electoral alliance.
An electoral alliance may consist of a maximum number of candidates equal to the number of representatives elected in the elections, i.e. twenty-one (21) candidates. A candidate may stand as a candidate in only one electoral alliance or election circle.
If you are interested in joining an electoral alliance that has already been established, contact the electoral alliance’s representative before standing as a candidate.

Electoral ring
The establishment of an electoral ring needs an document, signed by the representatives of the electoral alliances belonging to it, and any non-attached candidates. The document needs to state the name of the electoral ring and the names of electoral alliances and non-attached candidates. The electoral ring may include a maximum of as many elected representatives as possible, maximum of twenty-one (21) candidates. A candidate may stand as a candidate only in one electoral alliance or electoral ring.
The electoral ring can be established by:
- Two or more electoral alliances
- One or more electoral alliances and one or more non-attached candidates
- Two or more non-attached candidates

Campaigning
When you stand for election, you commit to act in accordance with good manners and given instructions, for example in election advertising. A candidate gallery is published on the Student Union’s website, which is also published on the Student Union’s social media channels.
Candidates also have the opportunity to campaign, for example, on their own social media. You should be featured as much as possible in campaigns.
Electoral alliances and rings often have common campaigns, so you don’t have to campaign alone if you are part of an electoral alliance or ring.
