The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body in the Student Union. Council members are selected annually via election. The official and primary working language of the Representative is Finnish.
All members of the Student Union can stand for the election of the Representative Council. Each member also has a vote in the election. Remember to use these rights! In addition, all members of the Student Union can attend Council’s meetings.
Main responsibilities of Representative Council
The Representative Council is in charge of defining policies and it confirms, for example, the plan of work and the budget for the Student Union. The Representative Council appoints student representatives to the university of applied sciences’ working groups and other institutions and elects the board.
Elections
Every autumn, 21 members of the Council of Representatives are elected in the Council of Representatives elections, whose term of office is always the following calendar year. The elected members of the Council of Representatives elect from among themselves the Chairperson of the Council and the Vice-Chairperson. All students who have registered as present students and who have paid the Student Union membership fee are eligible to run in the election.
In the elections, both actual representatives and deputy representatives are elected. If a member elected as a regular member in the elections is completely absent from the representative council during the term of office, substitute members will become regular members of the representative council.
The Central Election Committee is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the elections. The Central Electoral Committee assists and advises on matters relating to voting rights and voting, as well as candidates and candidacy. The Central Election Committee also confirms and publishes the election results after the end of the vote.
The Central Election Committee can be reached by e-mail at tj@hamko.fi or by telephone on 0447221000.
