HAMKO’s Board of 2026 is looking for makers, are you one of them?

Applications are now open for HAMKO’s Board of 2025! This is a unique opportunity to get involved in student advocacy, gain valuable experience, and contribute to meaningful work for the benefit of all HAMK students.

What Is the Board?

The board is responsible for running the student union, turning plans into action, and representing students both locally and nationally. It consists of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and 3–8 members. New members are now being sought for all positions.

Board members will e.g.

  • influence student affairs
  • update social media
  • develop member benefits and services
  • plan and organize events
  • prepare official documents

All tasks are carried out as a team, and support is always available. No prior board experience is required – learning and growth will happen along the way.

Areas of Responsibility

Each board member will be assigned tasks based on their interests. Focus areas include for example communication, wellbeing, student culture, advocacy and many more!

Support will be provided by HAMKO’s staff and fellow board members throughout the year.

Who Can Apply?

All HAMK students who are members of HAMKO and are motivated to learn, collaborate, and make an impact can apply. Commitment for the full calendar year, a proactive attitude, and teamwork skills are needed.

You can apply for the board even if you have not applied for the HAMKO Representative Council.

Do you need to know Finnish?

Yes, all board members need to know Finnish. You don’t need to fluent but you must understand at least basic Finnish, both speaking and written. Official working language of the student union is Finnish.

If you are interested in promoting student causes, the board is working with an entirely English-speaking division, the HAMKO International Team. Applications for the International Team will open again in 2026!

Does the activity take up a lot of time?

Serving on the board is considered a position of trust, and time should be set aside for it. It can be carried out alongside studies, but if the calendar is already full – for example, due to a job or another demanding commitment – it is recommended to carefully consider whether enough time and energy can be allocated.

The work is project-based, meaning that some parts of the year may be calmer depending on the area of responsibility. Projects do not require the same level of involvement throughout the entire year.

How to Apply

The board will be elected at the representative council’s meeting in November (the date will be published soon) at Hämeenlinna University Centre. Interest in board positions can be expressed at the meeting or by asking someone to nominate you.

If attending in person is not possible, a free-form application can be sent by email to pj@hamko.fi or toiminnanjohtaja@hamko.fi before the meeting begins. Participation in the meeting is still encouraged, as discussions and interviews will be held in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m., and all attendees must be on site before that. Latecomers don’t get access to the meeting.

Orientation Dates

If selected, participation in orientation trips will be expected on:

9–11 December 2024
10–12 January 2025
