The HAMKO Board is seeking a Vice-Chair and 1-2 Board members in the additional board member recruitment.
There have been changes to the composition of the Board, and after these, there would be vacancies on the Board. We would like to thank the elected trustees who are leaving the Board and wish them success in their new challenges.
The 2025 Board term ends at the end of this year, but there are many exciting things happening in the Student Union in the autumn, so it is worth appylying for this shorter term.
The Board can be applied at any stage of studies. The main thing is that elected trustees would be able to commit to the position of trust.
Vice-Chair of the Board
The vice-chair is the Chair’s working partner, and the person who fills in if the Chair is unable to do so. In addition to filling in for the Chair, the vice-chair also has his/her/their own responsibilities and projects, which he/she/they leads by example and works as an equal with other elected officials.
The position of vice-chair is a responsible one, and the vice-chair must be able to cooperate with everyone.
The presidium leads the board’s activities and works closely with the student union employees.
The vice-chair is expected to have polite interaction skills, the ability to take initiative and the ability to complete projects. In this position, attitude is crucial, so you don’t need to be a ready-made leader.
Board member
A board member brings the students’ perspectives, ideas and concerns to discussions and decisions, and is involved in making decisions that affect the everyday life of the entire community. At the same time, he/she/they gets own area of responsibility, which allows he/she/they to learn and adapt new skills. Although everyone has their own tasks, the board members work closely together and support each other.
In this position, you get to influence, develop the student union’s activities and learn practical skills that will also be useful in the future. Board membership is above all an opportunity to grow, learn and leave your own mark on the student community.
You are suitable for being a board member if
- you want to work together and listen to others
- you dare to bring forward your ideas and opinions
- you are enthusiastic about community development and events
- you are ready to take responsibility
- to learn new things
You do not need to be an experienced board member, the most important thing is motivation and a desire to influence
Language Requirement
The most asked question from international students is, do I need to know Finnish to be able to apply to the Board. Understanding and comprehension of written and spoken Finnish is highly recommended and to your advantage.
The administrative language of the Student Union is Finnish, and for example, the minutes of meetings are in Finnish. The Student Union may translate some of its own unofficial materials into English, but there will be a lot of material from our co-operation partners only in Finnish which you should be able to understand.
How do I apply?
The selections will be made at the Student Union Representative Council meeting on September 10, 2025.
You can apply either by sending a free-form application in advance by email or on site at the meeting. If you submit your application in advance, it is still a good idea to arrive at the meeting on site.
