There have been changes to student parking in Hämeenlinna. On other campuses, student parking continues as before. The new parking guidelines apply to all students parking in Hämeenlinna, even if you are just visiting. This article summarizes the key information shared through various channels.
What’s New?
- Parking Zones – Parking is now organized into zones.
- Parking Enforcement – Monitoring and enforcement have been introduced.
- More Student Spaces – Staff parking spaces have been removed from the Vankanlähde gravel lot, freeing up additional spots for students.
In Hämeenlinna, students have access to two types of parking areas: free and paid. Paid Parking costs €10 per year. The Vankanlähde gravel lot is now part of the paid parking zone. Electric pole spaces in this lot are now available for students, as staff parking has ended there.
To use paid parking areas, you must purchase a parking permit via the eParking app, logging in with your HAKA credentials (your @student.hamk.fi account).
Free Parking for HAMK Students
There are approximately 400 free parking spaces on campus.
Areas north of Visamäentie and the lot opposite the sports hall (Building H), bordered by Visakaari and Uusi-Lapio-tie, remain free (see map below). These areas are public parking spaces and can be used by staff, students, and visitors.
Paid Parking for HAMK Students
Paid parking areas are located closer to campus. The map shows student-designated paid zones (see map below). There are no reserved space. Once you purchase a permit, you can park freely in any marked paid zone.
Students from other HAMK campuses who have purchased a permit may also use these areas.

You can also choose a shorter payment period, though the monthly cost will be slightly higher.
How to Get a Parking Permit
Purchase your permit through the eParking app (instructions attached in this link). Log in using HAKA authentication so the system can verify whether you are a student or staff member. Available options will then appear.
Your permit is valid from the purchase date for the selected period. Before it expires, you’ll receive an email reminder with the option to renew.
Avoid Fines
You are responsible for ensuring:
- You have purchased a valid parking permit.
- The correct license plate number is entered in the app.
- You can add multiple vehicles to the app, but you must select the correct one when parking. The license plate you register will be shared with parking enforcement, helping you avoid fines.
Parking Enforcement
Parking enforcement is managed by ParkkiPate. Incorrect parking will result in a fine according to their price list. Current fine: €60 (as of August 2025).
Enforcement applies to:
- Parking without a valid permit.
- Parking outside designated areas (e.g., roadside, lawns, or areas not marked for parking).
- Using shared slow-charging spots as regular parking without charging.
