We’re looking for enthusiastic and creative students to join HAMKO’s board! For many, a year on the board is the highlight of their student experience – now it’s your chance to get involved, make an impact, and work on meaningful projects for the student community. Applications for the 2025 board are open, so don’t miss out!
What is the Board?
HAMKO’s board manages the student union’s operations, turns plans into actions, and advocates for students both locally and nationally. The board consists of a chair, a vice-chair, and 3–8 members, and we are looking for applicants for all these roles.
The board’s tasks include managing HAMKO’s social media, advocating for student rights, developing member benefits and services, and planning and organizing events throughout the year. Additionally, the board prepares various official documents for approval by the representative council.
In practice, you’ll get to plan and implement projects that matter to students, working alongside others!
Roles Based on Your Interests
Everyone on the board can find their strengths! Key projects include areas like member benefits, social advocacy, event management, communications, well-being, student guidance, international affairs, and student culture. Tasks are assigned based on board members’ interests, and you’ll always have support from the student union staff and other board members.
Work is done as a team, so no one has to manage alone. You’ll also get to learn and try new things throughout the year, so no prior experience is required!
Who Can Apply to the Board?
All HAMK students who have the desire to learn, make a difference, and work as a team are warmly encouraged to apply! We hope you’ll commit to the board for the full calendar year, have a proactive attitude, and most importantly, enjoy working with others. Any HAMK student who is also a HAMKO member is welcome to apply. Please note that board work is much more than meetings time to time, and takes take time weekly.
Understanding and comprehension of written and spoken Finnish is highly recommended and to your advantage. Student union can translate some of own materials in English, but there will be a lot of material from our co-operation partners only in Finnish which you should be able to understand.
How to Apply to the Board
HAMKO’s board will be elected at the representative council’s organizing meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 5:00 PM at the Hämeenlinna University Centre, room C-146. You can apply either by attending in person or by sending an informal application in advance to pj@hamko.fi or toiminnanjohtaja@hamko.fi. We recommend that all applicants who send an applications will also attend to the meeting because the council usually interviews all applicants. The meeting starts at 5 p.m., and all attendees must be there before that. Latecomers are not guaranteed access to the meeting.
Feel free to join the meeting – it’s a relaxed and friendly setting, and the interviews are informal. This is your chance to make your student years truly memorable and create unforgettable experiences!
Board Orientation
The board members will receive training and participate in orientation trips. If you’re planning to apply, reserve these dates in your calendar: December 9–11, 2024, and January 10–12, 2025. Travel costs and meals will be covered during the orientations.
